Dr. Irene Zimpernik is a highly accomplished expert in laboratory diagnostics, veterinary medicine, and quality management. She brings over 25 years of extensive experience in serology, microbiology, molecular biology, food and feed analysis, mycotoxins, and hygiene controls. Currently, she serves as the Department Leader of Serology and Head of the Control Laboratory for Herd-Specific Vaccine Production at AGES GmbH, Institute for Veterinary Disease Control, in Mödling, Austria. She is also the Leader of the Austrian Task Force for Avian Influenza, coordinating strategic decisions and task force operations. Dr. Zimpernik has a stellar academic background, holding a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (Dr. med. vet.) and a Diploma in Veterinary Medicine (Mag. med. vet.) from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. Additionally, she earned a Master’s degree in Human-Animal Interactions (MSc) and completed a Veterinary Public Health Qualification (Physikat) with a focus on animal health, food safety, and disease control. She has also undergone advanced training from the European Commission on EU Animal Health Law and Official Control Regulation. An experienced quality manager, Dr. Zimpernik has implemented and audited international standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 15189, and HACCP across diagnostic laboratories and food safety enterprises. As an EOQ-certified Laboratory Quality Assurance Manager and Assessor, she is a sought-after trainer and consultant in laboratory accreditation, quality systems, and auditing.
